I’m picturing Linda from the One Room Challenge standing outside my door with a whistle, yelling, “Time’s up! Step away from the room!” Today wraps up eight weeks of home decor projects, and it’s been quite the adventure. I’ve completely revamped my work-from-home office to make it more inspiring, and I even turned an old storage closet into a home gym. It’s been a mix of creativity and effort, but the results are definitely worth it. Let’s check out the final reveal!
For years, I’ve dreamed of being asked to be a Featured Designer in the One Room Challenge, and during such a tough time globally, this project has been an amazing distraction for me. The sponsors were incredible and really supported me throughout the process. And a huge thank you to you! Your support and cheers meant the world to me. If you missed any of the previous weeks, you can catch up on the whole journey from start to finish.
The black and brass lotus chandelier from Hudson Valley Lighting was love at first sight. I first saw it last year at the High Point Furniture Market, and it instantly stole my heart. When I started designing this space, I knew it had to be the star of the show.
That antique, weathered cabinet was a lucky find at an estate sale last summer, as was the French confit pot. I’ve filled it with some of my favorite vintage pieces, including Ethan the monkey, who I thought might have a spooky backstory, but turned out to just be a heavy bookend!
You can really notice the texture of the wallpaper here. It has a subtle zebra-like pattern, but the monochromatic colors keep it from being too much. This design is from the Delightful Collection by Pacific Design International’s European Prints and Textures line, and it’s the perfect mix of bold and subtle. Up close, there’s a slight shimmer that adds a little elegance without being over the top. It’s one of those details that really elevates the room without taking over. Honestly, it’s a real standout. I’m so happy with how it turned out!
Wow, check out that giant clamshell! It’s new to this space, but it used to sit on the old wood dining table before the marble pastry table took its place. The clamshell had been looking for a new home and finally landed on this bold black and white credenza (which, unfortunately, is no longer available). It’s funny how some pieces take a while to find the perfect spot. Now that it’s here, it adds a cool, unique touch that really pulls the room together. It’s so satisfying when decor finally finds its place!
This is probably one of my favorite views of the space. Deciding last minute to add an arched entryway to the home gym was such a smart move. It really gives the room a unique vibe. My contractor did an amazing job, pulling everything together and hitting the deadline like a pro. I couldn’t have asked for anyone better to bring this vision to life. The whole project turned out even better than I imagined, and that archway is definitely a standout!
From Bland to Bold – An Eclectic Modern Home Gym Office Transformation
Here’s a closer look at the black tile. It has a subtle metallic dot pattern that adds some texture and a bit of edge to the wall. We moved the mirror from this wall to the longer one, which turned out to be the perfect spot for spin workouts and morning yoga. With the gyms closed due to Covid, this space has been super popular. We also extended the faux marble tile into this room. At first, I was a little worried about tile and weights, but this is more of a chill, non-bro gym anyway.
Here’s a closer look at the Tony Curry pink sliced canvas artwork. I paired it with the Adidas shoe photo by Nicole Cohen.
This modern round coffee table (no longer available) is perfect for the home gym because it doubles as storage. The top lifts off, and inside I keep resistance bands and other workout gear, so everything stays neat and easy to grab. It’s also a great spot to set my iPad during screen workouts. Above the table is a vintage, slightly risqué painting I got from an auction at Rivich Antiques. It adds some character to the room—and honestly, it’s a funny reminder of why I’m working out, LOL. Everything in this space just works together perfectly!
That arched doorway into the work-from-home office gets me every time—I love it! You might also notice I moved the Gino Hollander painting of the rocking chair girl back here. I found it at an estate sale a couple of years ago, not knowing what a gem it was. I was shocked when a follower told me who the artist was! It felt like one of those things you only hear about in the news. I still can’t believe I scored such an amazing piece. It really adds something special to the room!
An Eclectic Modern Home Office To Inspire A Creative Mind
My desk is full of vintage treasures, each with its own little story. The gold leopard head? Yep, it’s actually a tape dispenser, and it adds a fun, stylish touch. I’ve also got a crystal ball that I found on a shopping trip with my friend Kelly, who painted the black-on-black art in my kitchen. The chair is a faux bamboo brass Chippendale I picked up from The Savoy Flea, one of my favorite spots. And finally, there’s a brass shell task lamp I snagged at an estate sale last summer—it adds a bit of charm to the whole setup.
You might think the arch is my favorite, but I’m actually just as excited about the vintage clamshell I restored and the modern wall sconce I paired with it. They really give the room a unique look. If you’re thinking about updating your own space, don’t forget to use the code HIPSTERS35 at Blueprint Lighting for 35% off. They’ve also extended their free shipping offer, but it won’t last forever. So, grab these deals while you can and give your home a fresh, stylish touch!
